Sankey diagrams in Claude Code

Point Claude Code at the statements in your project, as CSV, Excel or PDF, and get a Sankey diagram with a link to the SankeyArt editor.

Add SankeyArt with one command:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user sankeyart https://mcp.sankeyart.com/
> Turn reports/income-statement-2025.csv into a Sankey diagram

⏺ Read(reports/income-statement-2025.csv)
  ⎿ Read 9 lines

⏺ sankeyart - draft_sankey (MCP)(title: "Income statement FY2025", …)
  ⎿  {"editor_url": "https://www.sankeyart.com/sankeys/open/…", …}

⏺ Here's the FY2025 income statement as a Sankey diagram: revenue of $1,000M splits into $600M cost of revenue and $400M gross profit, which leaves $120M net income after $250M operating expenses and $30M income tax.

Open it in the SankeyArt editor:

A Claude Code session: Claude Code reads an income statement from a CSV file, draws it with SankeyArt and replies with a link to the diagram in the SankeyArt editor.

Add SankeyArt to Claude Code

Pick one of the two, so that SankeyArt isn't connected twice.

One command

The quickest way in.

  1. Run in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user sankeyart https://mcp.sankeyart.com/
  2. Start Claude Code and ask it for a Sankey diagram.

The plugin

For cash flow statements, balance sheets and budgets.

  1. In Claude Code, run both:
    /plugin marketplace add sankeyart/claude-plugin
    /plugin install sankeyart@sankeyart
  2. Ran the one command before? Remove it:
claude mcp remove sankeyart --scope user

What to ask Claude Code

Write as you would to a colleague. A few prompts to start with:

  • Turn reports/income-statement-2025.xlsx into a Sankey diagram.
  • Read the cash flow statement in annual-report.pdf and draw it as a Sankey diagram.
  • Draw budget.csv as a Sankey diagram, grouped by department.
  • Save that diagram in my SankeyArt account.
  • Which diagrams do I have in SankeyArt?

Frequently asked questions

Yes, drawing diagrams is free and needs no SankeyArt account; they carry a small SankeyArt watermark. With a SankeyArt subscription your diagrams have no watermark, and Claude Code saves them in your SankeyArt account and opens them from there.

No, the one command is enough to draw diagrams. The plugin adds a skill that tells Claude how to lay out cash flow statements, balance sheets and budgets so they read well. Install one or the other, not both.

No. When Claude Code is signed in with the same claude.ai account, it uses the connectors you added there, SankeyArt included. Adding it again would connect SankeyArt twice.

A terminal can't show the diagram, so Claude Code gives you a link instead. It opens the diagram in the SankeyArt editor, where you can fine-tune it and export it for slides and reports.

Run /mcp, choose sankeyart and Authenticate, and sign in to SankeyArt in your browser. To remove SankeyArt, run claude mcp remove sankeyart --scope user.

No. SankeyArt draws only the figures you or your files give Claude Code, and doesn't give financial advice.
